The Data Center Debate, King Charles III, and the Bigger Question Facing Warren County

Tonight is the first planning commission meeting connected to the proposed data centers in Warren County, while Front Royal is also having its own parallel conversation surrounding future growth and development.

While these are two separate discussions, I think both conversations are really tied to the same larger question:

What kind of future does this region want to build long-term?

I recorded a video talking through some of my thoughts surrounding the data center discussions, tourism, growth, and whether moments like the recent visit from King Charles III and Queen Camilla are opportunities the region is fully taking advantage of.

Tonight is the first planning commission meeting connected to the proposed data centers in Warren County, Virginia, and I wanted to share a few thoughts surrounding the larger conversation happening right now in Front Royal and the Shenandoah Valley.

In this video, I talk about:

The ongoing data center debate in Warren County

Long-term growth and community identity

Tourism and economic development

The recent King Charles III visit to Front Royal

Why visibility and storytelling matter for small towns

The future direction of Warren County

This conversation is not simply about one project. It is really about what kind of future communities like Front Royal and Warren County want to build over the coming decades.

If you enjoy conversations around tourism, local growth, Shenandoah National Park, small-town economics, photography, and the future of communities in the Shenandoah Valley, consider subscribing for future videos and discussions.

Warren County Already Has an Identity

One thing I keep coming back to is that Warren County already has something many communities spend years trying to build.

It already has identity.

People already know this area for the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive, hiking, overlooks, wineries, the Shenandoah River, and the overall small-town atmosphere surrounding Shenandoah National Park.

That has value.

Tourism has value.

And I think conversations surrounding future development eventually connect back to what kind of identity communities want to continue building toward.

The King Charles III Visit Was a Rare Opportunity

I also talked briefly about the recent visit from King Charles III and Queen Camilla and whether we fully capitalized on the attention it brought to Front Royal and Warren County.

Because honestly, moments like that are rare.

Very few small towns receive international attention on that level, and I think opportunities like that can help continue building tourism visibility and destination awareness far beyond the Shenandoah Valley.

The Bigger Question

At the end of the day, I do not think these conversations are simply about data centers.

I think they are really conversations about direction.

What kind of growth makes sense here?

What industries align with the long-term vision of the region?

And what kind of future does Front Royal and Warren County want to continue building toward over the next several decades?
