My Plan to Revitalize Warren County Tourism and Diversify Our Economy

Warren County is sitting on untapped potential. In 2024, Virginia welcomed 114.5 million visitors, who spent over $35 billion and generated a $53.3 billion economic impact statewide. That spending supported 328,365 jobs and brought in more than $3.3 billion in state and local tax revenue.

The problem? Warren County isn’t getting a big enough share of that pie — and we can change that.

I’m not just saying we need to “do better.” I have a concrete plan to make it happen.

Step 1: Launch a Targeted Tourism Marketing Campaign

We will create a professionally managed marketing effort that focuses on:

  • Promoting our outdoor recreation, historic sites, and small-town charm

  • Partnering with local businesses to offer packages that encourage visitors to stay longer

  • Leveraging social media, regional tourism alliances, and targeted advertising to reach high-value visitor groups

Step 2: Develop Year-Round Attractions

We can smooth out seasonal tourism swings by:

  • Supporting events and festivals in all four seasons

  • Expanding recreational opportunities like guided outdoor adventures, cultural programs, and arts events

  • Partnering with private investors to create attractions that fit our community character

Step 3: Diversify Our Economic Base

Tourism is vital, but it’s one piece of the puzzle. My plan also includes:

  • Targeting industries that match our location, workforce, and quality of life

  • Working with state and regional economic development agencies to attract new employers

  • Streamlining county processes to make Warren County a business-friendly place to invest

Step 4: Demand Transparency and Accountability

Every tourism and economic development initiative will include:

  • Clear performance goals and timelines

  • Public reporting on spending and results

  • Regular opportunities for residents to provide feedback and ideas

This isn’t just talk — it’s a roadmap to grow our revenue, create jobs, and keep more of our young people here in Warren County.

If we follow this plan, we can transform Warren County from a hidden gem into a leading Virginia destination and a thriving place to live, work, and visit.
