Data Centers In Warren County
Data centers are in fact on our doorstep and if someone is telling you that they are not here is simply misinformed. No, we have no zoning for them, but that can change very quickly. I fully expect a zoning vote on data centers within the next 12 months. I am completely opposed to the development of data centers in Warren County. In my over 20+ year history in the IT field I’ve had many dealings with data centers. I have managed and ran data centers for Amtrak. I have ran Fleet Operations for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and actually odered in the servers and managed the teams that remotely operated those servers in the hundreds of data centers AWS.
There are water and electricty concerns, but those can be resolved by throwing money at the problems. What are harder to resolve is the environment impacts that we here in Warren County would see. The sound is very disruptive to the ecological system and I find it hard to believe that we would want someone standing on our overlooks in the National Park and looking down on data centers. Not the most inviting view. These huge bohemeths also do not employee more than 25-30 individuals, and most of those would be building engineers and security. I think if we want to allow these types of buildings in the northern corridor of the county then we would be better served attracting light industrial or light manufacturing that would employ more people and inject money into our economy.
