Tourism As Our Primar Revenue Stream

Why I believe tourism-not higher taxes-is our best path to new revenue.

Tourism – A Pillar of Warren County’s Economic Growth

Tourism is not just a seasonal boost or a small business perk—it’s Warren County’s primary economic driver. From lodging and dining to outdoor recreation, events, and retail, tourism fuels job creation, local tax revenue, and long-term economic health across multiple sectors, not just mom-and-pop shops. When done right, it supports infrastructure, public services, and quality of life for everyone.

The core function of tourism is marketing—attracting people to discover what makes Warren County unique. Unfortunately, we do far too little of it. Without strong and strategic promotion, we’re missing opportunities to grow revenue, fill vacant storefronts, and support the businesses we already have.

There are common myths about tourism growth that need to be addressed. Increased traffic? Growth brings funding to improve roads. Lower quality of life? Visitors help fund amenities residents enjoy year-round. Only small businesses benefit? Not true—tourism spending supports construction, transportation, government, and real estate sectors, too.

To fully realize the potential of tourism, Warren County must work collaboratively with the Town of Front Royal to create a cohesive and strategic plan. Together, we can ensure tourism is not just growing, but growing smart—enhancing our economy and protecting what we love about living here.
