Bryan Scott Turnmeyer talks about Economic Development in Warren County, Virginia.

Economic Development for a Stronger Warren County

For too long, Warren County has lacked a proactive and sustainable approach to economic development. As a result, we now face a limited pipeline of new revenue sources to support the essential services our community relies on—like education, emergency services, and infrastructure. When our local economy doesn’t grow, the burden of funding these needs falls heavily on the shoulders of long-time residents through higher property taxes. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what we’re seeing today, and without change, tax increases are likely in the coming years.

To break this cycle, we must pursue a diverse economic development strategy—one that grows our revenue base while preserving the character and beauty that make Warren County such a special place to live.

One of the most effective ways to do this is by embracing and expanding tourism. Warren County is a natural gem—from the Shenandoah River and Shenandoah National Park to Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail. These incredible resources already draw visitors from across the country, and we have an opportunity to mature and elevate that sector into a reliable source of economic growth. Tourism creates local jobs, supports small businesses, and brings in revenue without requiring large infrastructure expansions or putting more stress on our residential taxpayers.

In addition to tourism, we must also invest in light manufacturing and industrial development—particularly in our northern corridor. By partnering with regional leaders, planning strategically, and offering the right incentives, we can attract clean, sustainable businesses that create long-term, high-quality jobs. These businesses not only contribute to the tax base, but they also bring economic vitality without disrupting the rural charm of our county.

Warren County deserves a future where growth is thoughtful, balanced, and beneficial to all—not one where our residents are priced out of the community they love. I am committed to building that future and being an integral part of bolstering our Economic Development strategy.
